Serivces -> Offsite Enterprise Backups

Concentus TeleVaulting

Protecting your organization's data the traditional way is a complicated, error-prone endeavor that can lead to hours of frustration or worse — lost data. Traditional backup methods are prone to human error, unable to meet shrinking backup windows and recovery point objectives, and consume precious network & server resources.

Do any of the following describe your current backup system?

  • Per-server agents that must be licensed, installed, managed, and which consume server resources.
  • Backup jobs that flood your network.
  • Tape rotation strategies that leave you wondering where exactly your data is.
  • Restores that require full plus incremental runs against multiple tapes, where one error can ruin the entire process.
  • Multiple copies of the same file consuming limited tape space.
  • A "hope they’re in the office" mentality for mobile users.
  • Encryption that slows backups down even more, or is propriatary to your hardware, or none at all!

Sound familiar? Let us show you a better way...

The Most Advanced Online Backup System

Online backups often promise to solve all of those problems, but either fail to deliver or introduce problems of their own. Our backup service is best-of-breed, and has been designed from the ground-up to solve any organization's data backup needs.

From a single server at each office, you data is collected without agents from all of your LAN clients, compressed, globally de-duplicated, encrypted and transmitted to our secure vault. Data from your mobile users is collected from clients running on their laptops in the same way, including de-duplication with your entire enterprise, not just against their individual machine!

Our architecture is the best in the industry, with the widest platform, application, and database support available, and the most advanced technology on the market.

No Agents Required!

From one server, perform backups of data from any file servers, application server, or database on your LAN, all without agents.

  • Full platform support for any file server or NAS on the market.
  • Perform native backups of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and newer, Oracle 8 and newer, IBM DB2, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
  • Perform native backups of Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, Novell Groupwise.
  • Supports message level restores from database-level backups; you no longer have to choose between speed and precision for your email backups.
  • All without agents to install, manage, or purchase.

Delta-based Backups with Intelligent Compression

Stop worrying about meeting backup windows or flooding your network. End of the confusion of full vs. incremental backups.

  • Perform just one full initial backup of your data, period!
  • Block-level deltas transfer only the changed bytes since the last backup, minimizing backup windows and network load.
  • Deltas are integrated with your initial backup to produce virtual full backups for each recovery point. Perform the right restore the first time!
  • Multiple compression options are available to balance CPU usage and storage efficency.

Advanced Data De-Duplication

Traditional file De-Duplication ensures that you only store the same file once, regardless of how many instances of that file exist in your environment; our technology goes further: block level data De-Duplication - eliminating commonalities at the block level between all your data Vaulted with us. By identifying common blocks of data across your entire enterprise, you save thousands of dollars every year in archiving and bandwidth costs, and cut your backup windows to even lower levels. Our de-duplication technology is the most advanced in the industry.

  • Unlike most data de-duplication systems which are based on file-level comparisions, our system compares data down to the block level!
  • Elimate common blocks not just within each job, but between jobs on different nodes, file servers, even mobile users.

What does this mean for you?

Imagine your default system image includes some standard operating and procedural documents, 25MB worth of HR documents, form letters, requisistion and supply forms, and company PowerPoint presentations. Now, multiply that 25MB of data across 3000 desktops and 2000 laptops. With a traditional backup scheme, or even others who claim "de-duplication", you will be backing up the same set of data 5000 times. The same boilerplate 25MB becomes 125GB of redundant data.

Our global de-duplication can identify those common blocks between different nodes, on different networks, handled by different servers! It will even identify common blocks for mobile users, and avoid transmitting those blocks! If a user makes a slight change to a PowerPoint, or fills in some of the requisition forms, our system will take only those changed blocks and transmit them to our vault, not the entire file.

Not only do you save massive bandwidth by avoiding the transfer of redundant information, but the costs savings can be significant, upwards of $18,000 a year using this scenario, all because of 25MB of data. Even with 100 nodes, environments with high duplication, like schools where student work product often starts from common templates, see a drastic savings because of the common block elimation savings.

Because of the way most systems function, the thought of backing up the whole PC or laptop is out of the question, so the gamble is made: let's hope our users save only to their designated folder(s). Imagine if you could backup the whole local drive of all of your client machines and only the unique blocks across all of your Enterprise client nodes are transmitted and stored, yet any user with "that file" could restore their own copy of it.

Example: If you have 200 desktops, you are charged for the Vaulted size of the compressed unique blocks for this first machine, yet the duplicate blocks in all of the operating system files and common user information on nodes 2-200 have no size on our Vaults (only in the local and remote meta-databases) and are not billed to you (nearly a 1:400 compression and De-Duplication ratio on 200 newly imaged machines)- not only that but you don't waste bandwidth transmitting the duplicate blocks from nodes 2-200, our system only uploads the new and unique blocks from 2-N nodes! That is the freedom we provide, it covers you from users who just cannot seem to save where the I.T. team thinks they should.

First Class Data Security

End-to-end encryption for your data ensures total security and full regulatory compliance.

  • In-flight and at rest AES-256 encryption means your data is safe as soon as it leaves your organization.
  • Unique encryption keys that you generate means that we cannot get to your data, only you.
  • Dual-key (master/secondary) requirements help enforce restore policies at remote or branch offices.
  • SOX & HIPPA compliant.

Local Storage and Mobile Vaults

We pride ourselves on the speed and stability of our redundant links, but we understand that most businesses realistically have between 1.5 and 45Mbps of bandwidth at their offices. Our local storage option can take the pain out of day-to-day restores.

  • With our TeleVaulting Client you can choose to have N copies of some or all of your backup data sets targeted locally to a NAS or filer of your choice, including the TeleVaulting Client server itself assuming sufficient disk space.
  • Allows for wirespeed restores of commonly deleted user shares, near CDP database backups, and a second local set of spindles for your data.
  • Local storage also benefits from our de-duplication technologies!
  • Unlike other solutions, this service is included at no additional charge!

Along the same line, our mobile vault options can help kick-start your initial backups or reduce your recovery times in the event of a large loss of data.

  • Perform an initial backup to a mobile NAS or external hard drive, then ship that vault back to our data center.
  • We integrate your initial backup into our vault and your daily delta's automatically recognize the full.
  • We offer various mobile vault options for large-scale restores, including warm-spare SAN/NAS filers right in our rack.
  • All mobile vault services are optional and priced separately.

Additional benefits

  • Baremetal restore to dissimilar hardware
  • Native 32- and 64-bit multi-core processor and operatng system support
